As always, Tara Brach explains clearly and with empathy. She tells stories that resonnate and make clear the points she is driving home. Learning how to practice the RAIN technique is life-changing.

The Upside of Stress: Why Stress is Good For You and How to Get Good at It

 

 

Why I like it:

As well as just knocking your socks off with the persuasive research findings, McGonigal includes exercises for the reader to begin the mindshift towards regarding stress as something that is beneficial and helpful. I've never read a book so full of scientific studies that read like a fascinating novel. Not at hard slog at all, quite the reverse.

Whether we see ourselves as ‘creatives' or not, there are times in our professional and personal lives when thinking through a problem logically just doesn't work. That's because with certain types of problems you need to use the other side of your brain. Penman does an excellent job of explaining how and why we box ourselves into a problem-solving corner and how to get out of it. For artists worried about being ‘blocked' his wisdom is invaluable.
